Core Technology Facilities

The London Research Institute benefits from a wide range of Technology Core Facilities that allow access to state-of-the art equipment and instruction in its correct and effective usage. Within these facilities, services may either be run by dedicated staff, or by researchers themselves with appropriate staff input.

  • Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Service provides bioinformatics support, primarily in the computational biology areas of Microanalysis and Sequence Analysis.
  • Cell Services provides a wide range of quality controlled cells and media, as well as the production of monoclonal antibodies.
  • Electron Microscopy Unit provides scanning and transmission electron microscopy.
  • Equipment Park provides access to molecular biology equipment including DNA sequencing and robotic nucleic acid extraction.
  • Experimental Pathology laboratory provides transgenic phenotypes analysis.
  • FACS laboratory provides a comprehensive and continuously evolving flow cytometry service.
  • High-throughput Screening provides cell-based assays using either siRNA/RNAi, or chemical libraries.
  • Light Microscopy laboratory provides conventional, confocal and automated microscopy, time-lapse video and microinjection services.
  • Peptide Synthesis provides custom made peptides and crosslinking reagents.
  • Protein Analysis laboratory provides a protein identification and characterisation service as well as access to large format two-dimensional (2D) gel electrophoresis.
  • Protein Analysis and Proteomics laboratory provides dedicated proteomic technologies.
  • Protein Purification Facility provides the expression and purification of high-grade proteins.

In addition, a range of scientific services are provided by Cancer Research UK including peptide synthesis, monoclonal antibody service and genotyping facility.
