The London Research Institute hosts a number of conferences throughout the year and has extensive seminar schedules as part of its education programme.
LRI Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute meeting – ‘Genome Stability’
The LRI Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute meeting on 'Genome Stability' took place on May 19-20th at the Royal Society in London. This meeting was the 5th biennial meeting of its kind, which dates back to 2003.
The first meeting was organized by Dale Wigley and Steve West following a generous donation to ICRF (as it was then) by Oscar Lewisohn in memory of his wife Louisa to support interactions between ICRF and the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute in New York. The theme of "Genome Stability" was chosen because this was an area of considerable strength at both Institutions, which continues to this day.
The first meeting was a great success with a strong speaker list and prompted a reciprocal meeting in New York in May 2005. Since that time a biennial meeting has alternated between London and New York and has established a tradition of fantastic meetings that have continued to strengthen the interactions between the two Institutions.
The 5th and most recent meeting provided a great opportunity for LRI students and postdocs to meet with our New York colleagues and listen to great science. It is fair to say that this meeting continued the great tradition of past meetings and was heralded as “the most scientifically outstanding LRI-SKI meeting yet”, by Ken Marians, Program Chairman and Dean, Sloan-Kettering Graduate School (and speaker at the meeting). We, the organizers, are very grateful for the financial support of the LRI to fund this meeting, which we hope will continue in the future.
