Elections to the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences – Giampietro Schiavo and John Diffley

Many congratulations to Giampietro Schiavo (Molecular Neuropathobiology, LIF) and John Diffley (Deputy Director LRI, Chromosome Replication, Clare Hall) on being elected as Fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Academy Fellows are elected for outstanding contributions to the advancement of medical science, for innovative application of scientific knowledge or for their conspicuous service to healthcare.

John Diffley

The Academy promotes advances in medical science and campaigns to ensure these are converted into healthcare benefits for society. Its mission is to ensure better healthcare through the rapid application of research to the practice of medicine. Fellows are therefore central to the Academy’s work.

Giampietro Schiavo

Gipi commented ,“I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. It is a wonderful recognition of the work performed by the past and present members of my team, and the scientific environment and support provided by the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute”.

The new Fellows will be formally admitted to the Academy at a ceremony on Wednesday 29 June 2011.
