Summer Studentships at the LRI

LRI student looking at a slide. The London Research Institute Summer Studentships are aimed at high calibre, motivated and enthusiastic undergraduate students who are contemplating a career in research.

If you are considering doing a PhD after your undergraduate degree, then being a summer student is a great way to find out what 'working at the bench' is like and to gain some practical experience.

About the Summer Studentship scheme

The London Research Institute has an international reputation for its outstanding research into the basic biology of cancer and is committed to training the next generation of cancer research scientists.

The Studentships are a fantastic chance to develop your laboratory skills in our well-resourced laboratories working alongside world-class scientists.

You will have the opportunity to learn a various research techniques, depending on your project. For example, molecular biology techniques such as cloning, sequencing and SNP analysis, biochemical techniques such as Western Blotting, immunoprecipitation and analysis of protein-protein interactions, and cell biological techniques such as immunofluorescence and light and confocal microscopy.

What's involved?

Our competitively awarded summer studentships have a duration of 10-12 weeks, beginning at the end of June and concluding in September.

You will have the opportunity to work on an original research project in one of our laboratories located at either Clare Hall (just north of London in South Mimms) or Lincoln's Inn Fields (central London).

You will work closely with one of our post-doctoral fellows, and have the chance to learn and practise some state-of-the-art techniques.

The stipend for this studentship is £200 per week (non-taxable), which is funded by Cancer Research UK, the UK's leading charity dedicated to cancer research.
