CURRENT VACANCY
ICR and LRI Clinical Research Fellowship
The interplay between cancer therapy and cancer-associated fibroblasts
The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and London Research Institute (LRI) have teamed up to offer a Cancer Research UK-funded 3 year clinical research fellowship starting in October 2012 to investigate the effects of chemo- and radiotherapy on cancer associated fibroblasts, and the implications for cancer recurrence and resistance to therapy. The potential for therapeutic targeting of the ‘tumour microenvironment’ will also be addressed.
The combined resources and expertise of the ICR and LRI will provide a unique opportunity for clinicians to study for a PhD, learn a range of research methods, and develop significant expertise in latest ideas for targeting loco-regional recurrence and metastasis. The laboratory programme will be overseen by Dr Erik Sahai (LRI Tumour Cell Biology Laboratory / ICR appointment) and Dr Kevin Harrington (Clinical Oncology and ICR Gene Therapy Laboratory).
Applicants should have or be eligible for General Medical Council registration, and should have completed general professional training (and have MRCP or equivalent) and have acquired some experience in oncology. They should have a strong interest in improving cancer outcomes through integrating findings from basic research into clinical practice. There will be defined opportunities for relevant clinical work in the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Applications for the ICR/LRI Clinical Fellowship beginning October 2012 are now open. To apply please send your CV and the names and contact details of 2 referees to registry@icr.ac.uk
Closing date: Monday 12th March 2012
