The London Research Institute conducts comprehensive PhD and Postdoc training programmes, and are supported by highly trained scientific and administrative staff.

The London Research Institute has an active outreach programme which aims to engage the public in our research and goals. We promote public awareness and understanding of the causes and treatment of cancers. For information about previous outreach activities we have undertaken please browse some of the examples provided.

Outreach activities we are involved in:
Our Schools-based activities are designed to enthuse children and young people about science and contribute to science education. We have steadily increased the number and depth of our interactions with schools and now contribute to the science curriculum for ages 14-18. We host pupils aged over 16 at the Institute to gain ‘hands-on’ lab experience and interact with the scientists, as well as providing tours of the laboratories and hosting stalls at careers fairs.
Our Clare Hall laboratories set up a Royal Society partnership project with Dame Alice Owen’s school based in Potters Bar. The students visited the labs and spent time investigating How much UV light are you exposed to at school? Read more about the project on the Royal Society Website.
The Nuffield Research Placements, offer bursaries to first year Advanced/Higher post-16 science students, helping students to take part in projects in universities, industry, or research institutions during the summer holidays. The students work alongside practising scientists and contribute to projects in research and development. In the past we have taken student placements through the Nuffield Science Bursary Scheme for those who are interested in a scientific career. We are planning to host another student at Clare Hall this summer.
For full information about the scheme and all contact details, visit the Nuffield Research Placements section of the Nuffield Foundation website.
Vicky Highland was one of our past students who worked at the Clare Hall Laboratories in the summer of 2006. Or read about a student experience with the Electron Microscopy Facility at Lincoln's Inn Fields in 2012.
A wealth of educational materials and teaching resources are ready to use in the classroom today.

The LRI offers short work experience placements to school students aged 16 and over from years 11 - 13 on our regular schemes. The placements offer the opportunity for pupils to work alongside Institute scientists and gain experience of the laboratory environment, and scientific research. The Clare Hall scheme runs in April of this year, and the scheme at Lincoln's Inn Fields in the Summer of 2013. For more details contact us.
